SpeechJammer Puts An End To Annoying Speakers

The idea is simple. Psychologists have known for some years that it is almost impossible to speak when your words are replayed to you with a delay of a fraction of a second. The microphone and speaker are directional so the device can be aimed at a speaker from a distance, like a gun. Tags: jamming.

I would be sooo happy to educate them with this tool. One must move with the times.

I wonder if Amazon carry theseā€¦. I could beat it. Oddly the most often I get that kind of feedback is on conference calls, typically with some cell phone echo or such.

Either foam plugs, but that will make it harder to modulate the volume of your own voice, or by in-ear headphones of the type used by musicians, where the artist gets to hear their own voice or instrument controlled by the mixer.

Very promising. Ghetto: Indeed. I worked in a broadcast radio station in the late 70s and early 80s. First one to stumble on the air bought the next round after work. It is just like announcing at a football game when the speakers are at the end of the field and you are in the middle.

When are these scientists going to invent something really useful? Man psychologists are so behind the times, telecoms engineers have known this since before the invention of the telephone think telegraph. Which iss exactly what people on long distance phone calls used to do when echo cancellation broke down.

The nasty trick if you realy want to do it is to remove vowel sounds and replace them with a consonant sound from earlier speach or swap consonant sounds arround. This hits the brain in a different place and can cause seizures in some people.

Now all we need is for someone to market a pocket version that clips to the back of a smart phone. I wonder if the original works something like that? The bluetooth in my car has this unfortunate habit. Caller can hear themselves speak with a small delay making it almost impossible to hold a conversation. I strongly disagree that it is impossible to speak when hearing oneself on a short delay. It was distracting at first, but now I essentially ignore it or actually listen to it to make sure my transmission was sent out clearly.

But, yes, it took a while to get used to. Whilst the human or animal can only hear a limited frequency range it can be effected by both subsonic infrasound and ultrasonic energy, and importantly one can act as a carrier to the other.

All parts of your body have their own resonant frequencies. The human heart has a resonant frequency but thankfully it tends to be fairly well absorbed by the fat lungs and other structures around it. Which brings up the question of using off resonant carriers that the surounding structures are transparent to to carry the resonanting frequency in. This can be done with ultrasonics where by you select two ultrasonic frequencies that surounding structures are transparent to, that have a difference frequency at the resonant frequency of the organ you wish to shake up.

Again thankfully the body does not have much susceptability to this except at places like joints etc.We did this to a newsreader in the radio station where I used to work. Every channel in a properly set up facility could be over patched, so we took the feed from her mic in the apps room, fed it into a quarter inch tape machine and flipped the out from the record head to the replay head before inserting the signal back into her return feed to headphones.

Using the vary speed control we were able to vary the effect at will so that she would start out fine and slowly began to sound like she was losing brain cells. The effect was so subtle that she was convinced that it was her problem rather than someone was manipulating her headphone mix.

Yeah right. This effect also happens on Teamspeak or Ventrilo servers if someone has a mic that is feeding back.

Also as a note; it is possible to continue to talk with this effect in place by ignoring everything that you hear. I was going to post the same thing. At best, this has a short term, limited effect until the target adapts by ignoring the other voice. I agree, when i used to csr for an ISP, it happend a lot. Actually, this is an interesting project.

I would venture to think that if anyone was pointing ANY unwanted device at you, you would probably stammer a bit. I saw this on the news last Friday and the first thing I thought of was exactly what Tom Schwarz btw: are you the guitarist and photographer who used to live in Savannah? That means you would have to be in a fairly tight area to even hear the SpeechJammer.

It would be possible to add the functionality to detect this and nullify their transmission by playing back their signal from the podium out of phase. A handheld device would be very limited. If it was easy to implement the technology would be all over the place. This is just a device that disorientates the speaker.

Very easy to do. This could probably be handled best with headphones, or in ear monitors which would create the controlled environment.

Think Bose noise-canceling headphones, except more expensive and specific. I think most of the results found id this video are from the shock of suddenly hearing feedback in a lecture room, and stopping to fiqure out what is going on.

So vonskippy for in Japan this is not useless technology, when there is a portion of their society will not say that.Vortex Radar. Against laser, the proper tool is a laser jammer. Laser jammers not only detect when an officer is shooting you, but they also actively jam the laser gun, giving you enough time to slow down and disable the jammer. Learn about laser jammer laws here.

They are the perfect complement to your radar detector. Multiple Laser Jammers installed on my vehicle for testing.

There are a number of different laser jammers available on the market. Each have their strengths and weaknesses. Keep reading below to read instead of watching.

It is the most effective laser jammer on the market. The ALP is the gold standard for laser jammers.

A thesis statement for everyday use by alice walker

Are there downsides? A few. Certain things that are included with other jammers out of the box are optional extras with the ALP. For example, it has a little speaker in the controller for audio alerts, but the external speaker for louder alerts and voice alerts are an optional add-on. Firmware updates and programming are done on your computer and you copy the files over to your ALP using a USB thumbdrive.

Personally I prefer running the laser jammer standalone and running my radar detector independently. Proper installation of any laser jammer is critical or else your install can prevent the jammer from working properly. Click here to read my ALP setup guide. Purchase the AntiLaser Priority Canada. Send this to a friend. This instructable was a LONG time coming. I had come up with this idea a while ago, after hearing about the details behind some basic "speech jamming" anomalies that occur when people use intercom systems.

Basically, the intercom would introduce an ever so slight delay to the output of the speaker, so you would end up hearing an echo. I had planned on making this many months ago, as I previously stated but I was going to try and go discrete, aka, use a micro-controller and attempt to program some sort of delay code.

But alas, I never could figure it out. This thing is the heart of this circuit, and is actually pretty impressive considering the pricing. This echo is typically within the range of 30 ms - ms, and it varies a bit. But, what happens when this delayed speech hits your ears? You have a tendency to start stumbling over your words, and you more or less, just lose your train of thought.

I'm thinking this may be due to the way your brain processes your words; since there's an inherent "delay" that your mind creates, it somehow interferes with your speech processing center. It's a pretty funny thing to play with and show people the effects of.

However it's not foolproof; if you concentrate hard enough, and speak slowly you can overcome the effects of the jammer.

It's still amusing to see your friends think " oh, this'll be easy! The circuit itself is quite simple, too. Only three "active" components, the 5 volt regulator, the PT, which controls the delay, and the LM which amplifies the audio from the PT And, if you go with the improved version, a KA You can get all of these things from eBay, mouser, wherever you source your electronics components.

I put this schematic together using ExpressSCH. A great program, and billion times easier to use than paint. The second schematic version is for improved sound clarity. The potentiometer adjusts how sensitive the microphone pickup is.

I would also deeply recommend you mount this circuit onto something or put it in a project box. The PT is a CMOS IC, and is very sensitive to static electricity, along with the fact that your fingers will easily introduce noise into the circuit.

A small flat piece of wood just hotglued to it would work too, plus it looks a lot nicer than just a floppy circuit hanging out in the wind.

It can help, if you're having problems putting it together to print out the circuit diagram and scribble over components you've already soldered on. You can also try labeling each part by number, along with the previous technique to really make sure you put it together correctly.

And for the semiconductory bits, pulling up the datasheets for each part can help identify the orientation for them so you don't accidentally put them in backwards.

The potentiometer connected to the PT adjusts the delay amount, and the potentiometer closest to the LM adjusts the volume output to the headset. The video shows just how well it works, even when pretty poorly tuned! This circuit IS the first iteration and as such it does have a few small problems which can be easily fixed. This can be easily attributed to any number of different things. It claims to boast a THD of under 0.

The more delay, the more pronounced the distortion is in the output. Another potential reason for this is the fact that we're using a microphone directly to the PTAccount Options Sign in. Top charts. New releases. PilferShush Jammer Cityfreqs Tools. Add to Wishlist. PilferShush Jammer blocks other apps attempting to utilise the microphone without your knowledge.

Some apps use hidden processes to record tracking audio in the background that is either generated by nearby beacons, television commercials, streamed music services or websites. This tracking audio is transmitted between 18 kHz and 22 kHz near ultra high frequency which is beyond the range of typical human hearing but within the recording range of a typical Android phone.

To block unwanted use of the microphone by hidden app processes, PilferShush Jammer requests use of the hardware microphone from the Android system and holds it.

This technique locks up the microphone from any other apps attempting to gain access to it. This technique has been tested only on user apps, not system apps. The Android system should halt PilferShush Jammer from blocking the microphone whenever a phone call is received or made. When the jamming technique is running and the microphone is locked up, PilferShush Jammer posts a notification to keep the user informed that it is running.

This is an experimental app made as part of research into audio counter-surveillance methods within the Android and IoT world.

It does NOT record or listen to any audio. It does NOT connect to the internet. Version 2. For instance Hz carrier, drift limit Hz and rate slow - will output random frequency between 19 kHz and 21 kHz approximately every second. Version 3. This is dependent on both the Android OS power management and any App Managers that may destroy running services.

As this app seeks to block microphone use it is important to NOT dismiss or hide the notification otherwise you may forget it is running. Version 4. Apps that try to record audio but do not have access to the microphone will be given zeroed audio data silence by the system even though they may still appear to be recording audio.

Notes: White noise output may not be very effective at blocking and is a somewhat annoying sound.
